Luggage racks & locks

There nothing better than grabbing your stuff and hitting the open road for a vacation or trip – except when you find out everything and the kitchen sink won't fit into your two-door sedan. A good luggage rack can not only give you more travel space inside your vehicle but it can secure your luggage and essentials for a long trip. Luggage racks can be hard shelled or soft, and the rack you get depends on what you are carrying.

A good luggage rack will keep its contents dry and should be waterproof, not just water-resistant. It should also resist cold and hot temperatures to keep your contents safe.

Typical items carried are often sports equipment but many of people are just families needing extra space.

Factory racks give you a package that's ready to go and easy to install. Some automakers offer attachments so your bike, kayak or skis can attach directly to the rack. Some cars don't come with factory racks, so an aftermarket rack is an option.

Strap racks are the least expensive option at around $60. A standard roof rack will run from $250 to $300. Individual mounts range from $80 to $150. Hitch racks can will hit you up for f$175 to more than $400.

Rack Locks

Not only will a good rack lack keep your gear secure during travel; it will keep your gear safe from thieves. Lock cores are generally sold as multi-packs so you can order as many as you need for locking your base rack and/or gear carrier attachments using the same key.

You paid good money for your gear, so care should be taken to protect it. Purchasing a larger number of cores up front will keep you from having to carry separate keys. Lock core packages come with a single key, and come in packs of two to 12.
